In Lifeform, the author will write of her “singular, strange and beautiful” experience of motherhood. Slate welcomed her daughter, Ida Lupine, with husband Ben Shattuck in 2021.

"I do feel like becoming a mother has gotten me closer to me more consistently being at what I enjoy... feeling at my best," Slate told Parade in 2022. "I don't think I've ever been so consistently happy."

comes on the heels of Slate’s 2019 debut essay collection, Little Weirds. The book, which was a New York Times bestseller, detailed Slate’s perspective on the “pain and beauty of life," per the book’s description, and explored topics like family, the end of relationships and self-love.
