Jenny Slate and Catbird Team Up on Jewelry Collection ‘Inspired by Motherhood and Childhood Memories’

In celebration of their 20th anniversary, the celebrity-loved jewelry brand Catbird has collaborated with Jenny Slate on a jewelry collection inspired by motherhood and childhood memories.

The eight-piece collection, which launches on the Catbird website on March 27th, is inspired by the emotions and memories attached to jewelry, with each piece drawing on notions of heirlooms and generational traditions that evoke childhood memories. The Entwined Braided Chain necklace, for example, takes inspiration from the person who taught us to braid our hair;. the Beloved Heart Spinner Charm, made popular in the Victorian era as a physical reminder of one’s love for another, is reminiscent of love tokens you bought and shared with friends growing up; and The Button of Admiration charm calls to mind your mom’s antique drawer of buttons lost off loved and worn clothing.
“A lot of the pieces are based off my own grandmother’s jewelry,” Slate says in a campaign video for the collection. “There were a lot of braids and bells, things that gesture toward interactions and connection. I want it to be lightweight enough that I might not even notice it but glittering enough that it will catch my eye — just nice to have a tiny bit of magic.”
“Jenny contains all the wonderful, keenly felt tenderness one could imagine,” Catbird creative director Leigh Plessner said in a statement, adding that when she asked the comedian, a longtime customer of the brand, if she wanted to make jewelry together, “her answer came with all the joy you’d hope for.”
“And then on a snowy day,” she continued, “when New York was quiet and still, we played Jenny’s favorite music, and photographed her wearing vintage Versace, pale blue silk and the collection we made together.”
