Jennifer Nettles Is Rooting for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce: 'I Want the Best for Them' (Exclusive)

The 'Farmer Wants a Wife' host, who has collaborated with the pop star in the past, is "invested" in Swift — and the farmers on the second season of her show

Jennifer Nettles is in love with Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s love story.

"I want the best for them,” Nettles, 49, tells PEOPLE about her feelings for the superstar she collaborated with on Sugarland’s 2018 hit “Babe," which Swift wrote with Train's Pat Monahan. “Taylor is such a lovely human being, and I want her to find love just like everybody else. I am invested in that for her.”

The Grammy-winning, Emmy-winning entertainer also finds herself invested in the love stories playing out on season two of Farmer Wants a Wife. “I love to be a part of helping people along in their love story,” explains Nettles, who is back as host of the FOX dating show, which pairs women with the farmers of their dreams.

Surprisingly enough, Nettles is the first to admit that she has never been especially fond of the dating reality show genre. So much so, that she initially said "no" to the idea of hosting Farmer Wants a Wife at all.

“Then I learned more about it and that [the show] has been responsible for over 200 marriages and over 500 children over the course of 13 years of being on the air,” Nettles says of the program, which airs in 32 countries. “I went and watched a couple of episodes and thought, 'OK, I get it now.’ I absolutely wanted to be a part of this.”

Certainly, Nettles says that Farmer Wants a Wife is far from your ordinary dating show.

“First of all, you can watch it with your whole family without feeling like there are going to be these cringe moments where everybody's kissing everybody,” says Nettles of the show, in which season two’s new crop of farmers — Ty Ferrell, Mitchell Kolinsky, Brandon Rogers and Nathan Smothers — will be looking for love. “I mean, there is romance and drama, but again, I think everybody's heart is in the right place on this show, and they're all just good people. It does make you feel good to watch."

The voice behind Sugarland hits such as “All I Want to Do,” “Already Gone” and “It Happens,” Nettles admits that she can’t help but cringe though when she thinks about the dating scene these days. “The way people find each other these days — God forbid, online —  I can't even imagine,” explains Nettles. “But I guess it’s OK. That's what they do. That's what the kids are doing nowadays.”

Luckily, her own kid — Magnus, 11, Nettles' son with Justin Miller — isn't there quite yet, but the teen years are coming up fast.

“I cannot believe he is almost a teenager,” says Nettles, who was recently cast in The Bondsman, the upcoming genre action series starring Kevin Bacon. “He's such a cool kid and such a cool person, and constantly keeps me laughing.”

But before her tween turns into a certified teenager, Nettles says she feels like it’s important to teach Magnus some very necessary skills — in the kitchen.

“I'm already making sure that he knows how to cook,” laughs Nettles, who recently expressed an interest in recording her own acoustic album during an interview on Today with Hoda and Jenna. “These are things that are super important and wonderful skills for everybody to know. But because of our history culturally, it's not something that all men grow up learning. I think men need to be able to know how to not only take care of themselves, but to take care of a family.”

Nettles firmly believes that her son also will need to eventually know how to take care of his partner.

“It's super important to me that he understands to me how valuable women are in our world and in our culture, and how to respect a woman and how to really cherish a woman,” says Nettles of the lessons she is teaching her son. “That's super important to me.”
