Fear plagued Jennifer Love Hewitt both on and off the set of I Know What You Did Last Summer.Nearly 26 years later, that feeling has surfaced once again for the actress following news of the movie's upcoming sequel reboot.

The slasher film debuted in 1997 and told the story of a group of teenagers involved in a hit-and-run that incited a stalker to taunt and attack them for what they had done. Its follow-up, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, premiered the next year.

With a third installment currently "in the cooker," Jennifer joins former castmate Freddie Prinze Jr. for the reprisal. That's not without pause, though. She told Entertainment Tonight she's "honestly terrified" to revive her iconic role as Julie James.

It all leads back to what she felt while filming the original movie. "The first one, I was terrified," the 9-1-1 star told the outlet. "I was like, 'Am I messing up the entire movie?'"

Jennifer even admitted that it kept her up at night. "I couldn't sleep [when] we were doing the first movie because I literally would be up until the middle of the night with somebody chasing me and then they'd be like, 'OK, it's a wrap. Go home.'" she said. "How does one sleep during this process?"

That pressure lifted once production for the second film started. Finding it more fun than stressful, she added: "I got to make her tougher. She'd been through so much already, and she wasn't quite as vulnerable as she was in the first one. It was just silly and fun, and we got to go to Mexico... It was just the best."

Even still, the Criminal Minds alum is revving up for her return, saying her character will be "back with 26 years of angst, knowledge, kickassery, which I'm turning into a word, and have some fun."

Jennifer teased that adult Julie "has got to go nuts. I don't know who she's fighting, but whoever it is is not gonna stand a chance; between me and a stunt double, we got this. That's all I can say."

What's more, the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot has a release date! The sequel starring Jennifer will premiere in theaters on July 18, 2025, according to Deadline. Until then, you can likely catch the actress in 9-1-1 season 8.
