Jennifer Lopez's initial response to A-Rod's proposal: 'What are you doing?'

Jennifer Lopez stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Tuesday night for the first time since getting engaged to former Yankees star Alex Rodriguez. Back in April, Rodriguez told Fallon how the whole proposal went down from his point of view, saying that he put a lot of thought into planning the perfect proposal, from rehearsing with his assistant to researching the exact time of the perfect sunset. Naturally, Fallon was curious about Lopez's side of the story. "I didn't know anything," Lopez told Fallon. The singer and actress also shared, "We had talked about it a little bit but I had no idea." "We went on a little beach vacation for a weekend. He was like, 'We should go away before you start to tour, before you start everything. We have a big year ahead, just me and you, without the kids,' and I was like, 'Okay, yeah, let's do that.' We went away for the weekend and, you know, we were walking on the beach it was just like nothing," explained Lopez, who said she didn't think anything was out of the ordinary. Lopez thought Rodriguez was "just trying to be romantic." Lopez explained that Rodriguez had set up a private dinner for the two of them outside, when he suddenly told her "Let's go by the fire." According to Lopez, while standing by the fire, Rodriguez "said something like, 'When did you know I was crazy?' Or something like that. He was, like, almost nervous, like, didn't know what to say," Lopez recalled. "I said, 'Pretty much the whole time I've known you're crazy.' I said, 'But I know what I'm signing up for.'" Lopez then revealed that when Rodriguez got down on one knee, she was totally shocked. "He just goes down on one knee and I was like, 'What are you doing?'" However, after Rodriguez got over the nerves and Lopez got over the shock, the two were happier than ever. Lopez stated, "But afterwards we were so happy. It was like we were waiting for that. We knew, I guess, eventually, we were going to get there."
