Jennifer Lopez Sets Sights on Bel-Air Compound

It’s certainly no secret that Jennifer Lopez has been looking for a swanky new spread in Los Angeles. Earlier this year, she was reported as having peeped but passed on Frank Mancuso Jr.’s $23 million Bev Hills estate, and we now hear from Platinum Triangle real estate über-insider Peter Propertyseller that word on the celebrity property gossip grapevine is the Bronx-bred former fly girl-turned-money-minting entertainer will soon seal the deal for Sela Ward’s picturesque compound in Bel-Air. It carries a price tag of almost $40 million.

The eight-plus-acre estate is anchored by a rambling, multi-level mansion described in marketing materials as a “French Country refuge,” with six fireplaces, steel-framed glass doors, French limestone countertops, and 100-year-old heart pine floors. There are spacious formal living and dining rooms, of course, along with a family room and separate game room that spill out to an elevated terrace with a three-sided, infinity-edged swimming pool. The lower level offers a plush 30-seat screening room, and the upper level incorporates a suite of offices and a library that leads to a master suite with double dressing rooms.

In addition to a guesthouse and art studio, the unquestionably brutally expensive-to-maintain park-like grounds feature a babbling brook crossed by a covered footbridge, a pagoda with fire pit, and a kitchen-equipped entertainment pavilion. There’s also a putting green for the grown-ups, a miniature golf course for the kids, a 100-seat amphitheater, and, tucked deep into the rustic rear of the property, a secluded swimming pond with sandy beach and outdoor shower.

Lopez, who will reportedly haul in more than $25 million for her residency at the Axis at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas this year, maintains a heavy-hitting collection of homes on both coasts, including a glamorously dressed 17,000-square-foot mansion in L.A.’s Hidden Hills enclave purchased in 2010 for $8.2 million and currently listed at $12.5 million, down from its original ask of $17 million. Her East Coast holdings include a 6,500-square-foot duplex penthouse in New York City’s Flatiron District bought in 2014 for a bit more than $20.1 million — Chelsea Clinton is her downstairs neighbor — and a 2.8-acre estate in the low-key but high-toned Water Mill area of the Hamptons, acquired in 2013 for almost $10 million.
