Jennifer Lopez says 'Hustlers' Oscars snub 'was a sting,' but her 'life is about more than awards'

Jennifer Lopez may not be motivated by trophies, but that hasn't stopped her from maintaining a booked and busy lifestyle.

The actress, dancer and singer sports a pixie cut on the March cover of Allure magazine, released weeks after she hit the stage on Inauguration Day. In the cover story published Tuesday, Lopez reminisced about the impact of her 2020 Super Bowl halftime performance and spoke candidly about the "sting" of being absent from past awards lists.

Lopez recalled production partner Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas sharing a list of all the awards nominations she earned for her role Ramona in 2019's "Hustlers." Instead of paying attention to the nods listed, Lopez said she couldn't help but notice which nomination was missing.

"When it came to the Oscars, it was so obviously absent. It was a sting,” Lopez said.

Lopez was widely predicted to receive a best supporting actress Oscars nod for her role in "Hustlers" after picking up Screen Actors Guild, Critics' Choice and Golden Globe nominations.

"I was like, ‘Okay, when you’re supposedly in everybody else’s mind supposed to be nominated and you’re not, what does that mean? Is it really real? Are the other ones real and this one isn’t?' " Lopez said of her initial thoughts after the Oscar snub. "It came to a point where I was like, ‘This is not why I do this. I don’t do this to have 10 Oscars sitting on my mantel or 20 Grammys.’ ”

At 51, Lopez said her career goes beyond her name on a plaque, and she is instead focused on finding joy in creating art that entertains, inspires and empowers.

"I think my life is about more than awards,” she said.

Lopez said her 2020 Super Bowl halftime show performance with Shakira was a prime example of putting her identity on display.

"The Super Bowl was really about showing what I could do to a bigger, broader audience than ever," she told Allure. “The idea was to show the best of, not just myself as an artist, but the best of women, the best of Latinos. I felt that I represented Latinos, I represented women, and I represented people in my age group in a light that was very positive and strong.”

She's set to appear next in "Marry Me" opposite Owen Wilson (set for release in May) and "Shotgun Wedding."

"Shotgun Wedding" was set to co-star Armie Hammer, who recently dropped out of the project after online allegations surfaced against him. Josh Duhamel is now set to star opposite Lopez.
