Jennifer Lopez Reveals Her “Narcissistic” Mother, “Busy” Dad Didn’t Give Her Enough Love

Jennifer Lopez has opened up about one of the most precious, yet traumatizing times of her life: her childhood.
In her new documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Told, the actress and singer claimed that her parents didn’t give her enough love growing up. The Selena star described her mother as a, “narcissistic, center of the attention, life of the party-type person,” and her father as a busy man who was practically absent during her childhood.
In past documentaries, Lopez also depicted her mother as “a super complicated woman” who “carries a lot of baggage, [and] wanted us to be independent and never have to rely on a man.” She also revealed that her mother was abusive during her childhood and “beat the sh*t out” her and her siblings.
Speaking of her father’s neglect, she said, “I felt very ignored by my dad because he was always working nights then all day he would sleep and I didn’t feel like I had enough of a connection with him.” However, the two are on good terms now.
Lopez admitted that the lack of attention and love received during her childhood made her long for it throughout life.
“When I was growing up I was always looking for somebody to make me feel loved,” she expressed. “I was a middle child, not the baby, not the first born… you just kind of get lost a little bit in between it all.”
In addition to the abuse she felt as a child, the “Let’s Get Loud” star also revealed that even in her adulthood, she’s experienced it.
Without naming any of her past lovers, she revealed, “I was never in a relationship where I got beat up, thank God, but I’ve definitely been manhandled and a couple of other unsavory things. Rough. Disrespectful.”
