Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez’s looks keep getting more and more wild. And honestly, it’s what’s giving me life right now — well, her and this impeccable springtime weather here in New York City that has me oh-so-giddy and happy and feeling like a kid again. But that’s not the point here: Instead, it’s about Lopez, who recently served up a “dirty” jeans ensemble that had me do a triple take, and now, she just went even bolder (and bigger, literally) in a three-piece look that just about caused my jaw to drop.

It was cool! It was simple! It was bold! It was J.Lo to a T, and TBH, while it was totally not me, there are some styling moves I might just steal from the singer as we move into spring. Lopez was, as per usual, photographed out and about in the Big Apple; more specifically, she made an appearance at Italian brand Intimissimi’s NYC flagship store, where she, as to be expect, wore the label’s best-selling cashmere turtleneck, which we now know she owns in at least two different colors.

In fact, she just wore the blue version with those aforementioned “dirty” jeans, but this time, instead of tucking the top into confusing denim, she went with big denim. Lopez rocked a pair of big, baggy, massively oversized blue jeans with exaggerated buttons down the front, big belt loops, and even bigger, roomier legs. Her pants were, in short, big, so it only makes sense to pair said denim with big shoes, right? Right.

Lopez grounded her jeans-and-turtleneck top look with brown platform boots with a sole so thick, my jaw dropped to the floor — again. It seems like J.Lo just has this effect on me, so I guess I have to simply accept it; but alas, her shoes are so big and chunky, they make perfect sense with her big and baggy jeans. Because big + big = ultra-cool, and that’s simple girl math, y’all.

But in all seriousness, I have always been a big fan of platform shoes. I find the thick base to make every shoe — and thus, every outfit — look 10 times cooler. Not to mention, you get a similar amount of height you do with heels, but you don’t have to worry about the thin stiletto getting caught on subway grates or, well, breaking (yikes!). Platforms offer an even height from the front to the back of the foot, meaning balance and comfort are both there.

I wear platform shoes year-round, from my go-to platform combat boots to platform sandals. The thick sole works on every shoe style and during every season, and now, thanks to J.Lo, I’ll be wearing mine with equally big pants for a conversation-striking look.
