Jennifer Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions Taps Andrew Strauser As Unscripted Head

As Jennifer Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions is prepping competition reality series World of Dance for NBC, the company has hired its first dedicated unscripted executive. Veteran reality exec Andrew Strauser is joining Nuyorican Productions as head of unscripted programming. He will oversee creative and development of all unscripted content under Nuyorican’s first-look deal with Universal Television Alternative Studio, working closely with Nuyorican’s Goldsmith-Thomas, Jennifer Lopez, and Lopez’s manager, Benny Medina, to develop content across all platforms and expand Nuyorican’s unscripted department.

Strauser moves to Nuyorican from TLC where he oversaw talent development initiatives with a focus on developing talent-driven programming for TLC, TLC.com and TLCme. Projects under his purview included Buddy Valastro’s Cake Boss which spawned two spinoffs, Next Great Baker and Bakery Boss. He developed talk show All About Sex, game show Labor Games and docu-series Playhouse Masters. He also was behind wedding specials for both Mario Lopez and Courtney Mazza and Nick and Vanessa Lachey, as well as Pete Rose: Hits & Mrs, Totally TBoz and was involved in 90 Day Fiancé, Say Yes To The Dress and What Not To Wear.

Led by Goldsmith-Thomas, Nuyorican has a first-look deal with Universal TV both for unscripted and scripted programming. The company produces dramas Shades of Blue starring Lopez for NBC and The Fosters for Freeform as well as the recently announced Bye Bye Birdie Live musical for NBC, toplined by Lopez. On the feature side, Nuyorican produced on Universal’s box office hit Boy Next Door. Projects in development include Griselda at HBO, a movie starring Lopez as drug lord Griselda Blanco.
