Jennifer Lopez has been compared to a "gift-wrapped parcel" by social media following Sunday night's Golden Globes 2020.

The 50-year-old singer, dancer, and reality judge rocked up to the annual event's red carpet in a glamorous dress – said to be Valentino Haute Couture – with the look proving to cover more of the Hustlers actress than is usually seen.

Within hours of gracing the event's 77th year, "Jenny From The Block" had found herself solidly topping "worst dressed" lists, with everyone from Twitter users to The New York Times likening her look to a gift or parcel.

The Dress That's Fronting Media Outlets

Lopez arrived at the event with soon-to-be husband Alex Rodriguez. The Latina was wearing a head-turning strapless gown formed of a long and crepe-like white skirt billowing out from her waist. Up top, forest green and metallic gold fabrics formed a giant bow – this blended in to form a sexy neckline flashing hints of then star's cleavage.

JLo accessorized her look with a gold-piped green clutch, silver bracelets and a necklace, plus earrings. Her hair was worn up in a sleek bun, with braids wrapping it for a glam finish.

'Tonight's Gown Is A Mess': Lopez Becomes A Meme Overnight

JLo didn't take long to turn into a meme, with both social media and large media outlets suggesting that her look was a giant fail.

Over at The New York Times, Arit John and Sanam Yar wrote:

"Jennifer Lopez has arrived dressed as a giant present."

Former writer for Jimmy Fallon, Chase Mitchell wrote: "Jennifer Lopez looks like she tripped and fell backwards through a Michael's."

"I LOVE LOVE LOVE Jennifer Lopez, but tonight's gown is a mess. The braided bun is a NO, too. It hurts me more to even type this," one Twitter user wrote.

Meanwhile, Cate Blanchett Is Compared To A Lampshade

Also dubbed a fashion fail on account of her unusual red carpet look was 50-year-old actress Cate Blanchett. Cate's Egyptian-style and fan-sleeved dress came as a floor-length yellow number with pleated fabrics offsetting jewel-encrusted panel details at the bust.

Cate was all smiles as she posed for photo calls, but social media was quick to liken the "Carol" actress to a home furniture item – this one didn't even need words as social media users straight-up posted pictures of similar-colored lampshades alongside a snap of Cate in her dress.

JLo Doesn't Win Her 'Hustlers' Nomination

JLo's appearance at the 2020 Golden Globes wasn't just for show. The "Dinero" singer had been nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her 2019 role in Hustlers, although she walked away empty-handed. Lopez was last nominated for a Golden Globe back in 1998.

Also gracing the red carpet last night were Jennifer Aniston, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sofia Vergara, and Kerry Washington, plus MCU actress Scarlett Johansson and Reese Witherspoon.

Lopez took to Instagram to post a snap of her dress – over on the star's social media, responses were more positive.
