It was great seeing Jennifer Lawrence back on the big screen last summer showing off her comedic chops in No Hard Feelings, but now, she might be ready for some Oscar fare. Martin Scorsese is eyeing a film about the life of Frank Sinatra, and he reportedly wants the 33-year-old actress to star as the crooner’s second wife, Ava Gardner, per Variety.

If Scorsese is directing, then you have to know the answer to who would be playing Sinatra: Leonardo DiCaprio. The outlet is reporting that Hollywood is lining up to finance the project because a Lawrence-DiCaprio-Scorsese film is not only a sure box-office hit, but it’s likely to garner several Oscar nominations — and studios would love those bragging rights. There might be one major obstacle in getting the green light on this project, though.

Sources told Variety that it’s Sinatra’s daughter, Tina, from his first marriage to Nancy Barbato, who control’s her late dad’s estate. The director will need the green light from her to proceed with the film, which will focus on his relationship with Gardner — and that’s where another snag comes into play. Gardner, who was married to Mickey Rooney at the time, was the reason Sinatra split from his first wife. Oh, what a tangled Hollywood web! Their affair began on a drunken night in Palm Springs and ended with an arrest in Indio, California after the “Come Fly With Me” singer and Gardner shot up streetlights with two guns. Not their smartest move, but the studio quickly made the story go away by paying off the cops, per Vanity Fair.

So, Tina might not be exactly thrilled to bring this part of her father’s life to the big screen since it comes at the sacrifice of her mother. However, Gardner and Sinatra’s affair and marriage were fueled by fights, the mob, and too much alcohol. “Every single night, we would have three or four martinis, big ones in champagne glasses,” Sinatra said, according to The Times, “Then wine with dinner, then go to a nightclub and start drinking Scotch or bourbon. I don’t know how we did it.” It seems like the perfect entertainment history story for Lawrence and DiCaprio to tackle with Scorsese behind the lens.

Without Tina’s blessing right now, that means the film isn’t in production, so fans will have a while to wait. But if Scorsese has his way, Sinatra’s messy personal life with get the ultimate A-list treatment from the Oscar-winning director — and we can’t wait to watch Lawrence and DiCaprio take on this juicy Hollywood tale.
