January 2024 will mark the eighth anniversary of Jennifer Lawrence’s second Best Comedy/Musical Actress Golden Globe victory for “Joy,” which, having followed her previous lead and supporting triumphs for “Silver Linings Playbook” (2013) and “American Hustle” (2014), made the 25-year-old the youngest three-time film acting honoree in the organization’s history. That particular hot streak ended there, but she may be set for a comeback at the upcoming 81st Golden Globe Awards if enough voters favor her work in the raunchy summer flick “No Hard Feelings.” If she does end up adding another trophy to her vast collection, she will set several new precedents and tie her category’s record for most wins.

At this point, the only two women who have clinched three Best Comedy/Musical Actress Golden Globes are Rosalind Russell and Julie Andrews, who respectively reached the milestone in 1963 (“Gypsy”) and 1983 (“Victor/Victoria”). Russell had previously been lauded for her performances in “Auntie Mame” (1959) and “A Majority of One” (1962), while Andrews had already won for “Mary Poppins” (1965) and “The Sound of Music” (1966). Lawrence, who scored her initial comedic lead victory at age 22, is looking to achieve this new feat at 33 – at least 14 years sooner than either of her potential predecessors did.

Considering all three female film categories, Lawrence presently belongs to a group of 13 triple champions, only six of whom have hit win totals of at least four. If she becomes the seventh member of that group in 2024, the 11-year gap between her first and fourth triumphs will be the shortest, supplanting that of Russell (15 years, 1947-1962). Additionally, she would build upon her current age record by far surpassing Tom Hanks (ages 32-44, 1989-2001) as the youngest four-time film victor in Golden Globes history.

This would be Lawrence’s fourth nomination in this specific category, directly following her failed 2022 bid for “Don’t Look Up.” Although this bid may trigger several other records, she would not be the youngest recipient of four such mentions, as that distinction has been held since 1967 by then-32-year-old Shirley MacLaine (“Gambit”). As it happens, Lawrence would be the fifth woman to receive her fourth comedy/musical actress notice at 33, following Andrews (“Star!,” 1969), Barbra Streisand (“Funny Lady,” 1976), Goldie Hawn (“Foul Play,” 1979), and Emma Stone (“Cruella,” 2022).

Lawrence and Stone, who both came up short two years ago against Rachel Zegler (“West Side Story”), are now set for a rematch, with the latter comfortably running first in Gold Derby’s comedy/musical actress race as the star of “Poor Things.” Indeed, Lawrence may be forced to fend off several of her past Golden Globe competitors, including the actress who defeated her on her first general outing (for the 2010 drama “Winter’s Bone”): Natalie Portman (“May December”; formerly of “Black Swan”). Regardless of these challenges, she boasts a stronger Golden Globe Awards resume than any of our top 10 contenders, and that could very well signal more success in her near future.
