Say you had to spend your entire life with only one other person aboard a massive spaceship hurtling through the cosmos. If said individual were Jennifer Lawrence or Chris Pratt, it might not be so bad. In Passengers, this is exactly the predicament the Hollywood A-listers awake to, having been accidentally jarred from cryo-sleep a full 90 years before their ship (and the rest of its slumbering inhabitants) reaches its distant destination. What’s a couple of stranded astronauts who both happen to be easy on the eyes to do to pass the time for almost a century? Judging by the film’s first trailer, they dress up, date, and deal with a malfunctioning ship that is on the verge of self-destructing.

Even in a season that’ll see a new Star Wars spin-off and a Harry Potter prequel, there may be no bigger winter 2016 release than Passengers, which will pair Hollywood’s two biggest young stars in an outer-space action-romance. Directed by The Imitation Game’s Morten Tyldum from Jon Spaihts’ long-in-development script, this first big-screen pairing between Lawrence and Pratt looks like it’ll operate as an effects-heavy blockbuster genre hybrid. And though none of its visuals so far seem particularly novel — thanks to various Stanley Kubrick-inspired touches, from ships that recall those in 2001: A Space Odyssey to a robot bartender (Michael Sheen) who, along with his bar, seems transported from The Shining — its wannabe-epic aspirations are clear for all to see in its first promo.

Passengers docks in theaters on Dec. 21.
