With so many Y2K trends coming back into style, like baggy jeans and retro sunglasses, it’s no surprise that Ugg boots are also popular again. Everyone from Jennifer Lopez to Blake Lively to Jennifer Garner has been wearing the popular boots and slippers lately. And as a longtime Ugg wearer, I totally understand why.

You see, I never really stopped wearing my Ugg boots. In my nearly three decades on earth, I have yet to find a comfier shoe that’s equally as stylish. 15 years ago, when it was circa 2009 and I was living on the East coast, I remember tossing on the Ugg Classic II Short Boots during days of heavy snowfall — both inside and outside — and staying super warm.

These were one of the first pairs of Uggs I owned, and I had them in black, gray, and chestnut, which is the most popular color that stars like Mindy Kaling and Hilary Duff have been spotted in. The wide range of colors means you can wear the boots with pretty much everything in your closet. I’ve worn them with sweats, shorts, and jeans, while some celebs have worn them with similar options, plus skirts.

The boots are lined with genuine shearling that’s as fuzzy as it gets, which helps cushion my feet. And the exterior is equally as soft thanks to moisture-resistant suede (they truly feel like stepping into two fluffy clouds). This is what gives them more of a slipper look and feel, but the rubber sole with traction allowed me to remain stable while wearing them through the sleet or snow. And the pull-on style makes the shoes so easy to slide on and off.

Fast forward to the present, and I’m still wearing Ugg boots, but a much smaller variation, like so many other celebs. In 2020, Ugg introduced the Ultra Mini II boots, which are a tinier version of the originals.

Since I’ve traded my fast-paced New York City lifestyle for island living in Hawaii, the shorter design is a much better option. Temperatures can hit up to 90 degrees on any given day, so the shorter cut allows my ankles to breathe, all while keeping my feet cozy thanks to the plush inside and a soft suede exterior. The low-cut makes them ideal for warm weather, transition months, and indoor-outdoor wear.

You might ask: Why does one need Ugg boots while living on an island? Well, in case you didn’t know, Uggs were created by an Australian surfer who moved to California and wanted to bring sheepskin footwear to the surfing community. Hawaii is filled with surfers in Uggs, which definitely feel comfortable after a long day in the water and are so easy to slip on and off.

But you don’t have to wear them to the beach: These cozy boots are glued to my feet while I putz around the house, grab groceries, and head to the airport. My feet stay comfortable all day long, and they help streamline my closet since I can wear them with so many items. I even hiked in them (safely, at a legal distance) to view Hawaii’s Mauna Loa volcano erupting last December.

When I’m not wearing my boots, I’m wearing the Tazz Platform Slippers, which I’ve had for two years now. The popular slippers have been spotted on celebs like Gigi Hadid and Elsa Hosk.

Like all classic Uggs, these slippers come with a plush upcycled wool lining that truly feels like walking on clouds. The platform gives me some extra height, and the exterior is moisture-wicking, which is helpful during unexpected island rain showers.

They also have a durable rubber sole to keep your feet protected if you’re walking on concrete streets and sidewalks. I even brought them to South America earlier this year, and they held up against the cobblestone streets of Bogota, Colombia. I also wore them on repeat in Australia this fall, taking them on hikes and beach walks.

The slip-on silhouette is not only breathable, but also easy to get on and off. And with a textile embroidery, the stylish slippers can be worn with jeans, denim shorts, pajamas, and even bathing suits (don’t knock it until you try it!). I have them in chestnut, but you can also snag them in blue or black.

Despite being a splurge, I’ve worn Uggs for nearly 15 years, and celebrities have been wearing them for decades. It’s clear that the shoes are timeless, and the all-day comfort they provide makes them a shoe you’ll want to wear every day.
