Who needs a tutu and tights when you’ve got stretchy jeans?
Though Jennifer Garner, 51, had some thrilling dance moves in her 2004 film 13 Going On 30, it doesn’t seem like ballet is her forte. Stopping at the New York City ballet this week, the actress tried to keep up with principal ballet dancer Unity Phelan.
Breathing heavily and barely touching her toes, you could see her struggling at the barre. But her dark denim, on the other hand, did something else: It raised the bar for jeans. Stretchy, not stiff, they actually looked relatively comfortable. And she could do said things without busting a seam or ripping them in half.
For the rest of her outfit, she wore a sleeveless black shirt and some tall boots (which she also wore last spring). She also added a necklace and some bracelets and kept her hair down.

Signature by Levi Strauss & Co. Gold Label Totally Shaping Pull-On Skinny Jeans, Starting at $12
It’s been the season of baggy jeans, but now that Garner wore skinnies again, you’re going to want to pick up these shaping ones. Starting at $12, they come with no buttons or zippers, and they’re made from a majority cotton material, so putting them on and staying in them is bound to be comfortable.
More than 56,000 shoppers approve of them: “I have a 2-year-old, an awesome mom pouch, and a healthy love of bread… Literally ditching every other pair of jeans I have and stocking my entire wardrobe with these,” one shopper said. The blue color is denim-like, but there are also prints, like leopard and camo, plus the olive ones remind us of Kate Middleton’s cargo jeans.

Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez approve of high-rise jeans, and Garner approves of stretchy ones? So you may want to pick up these now-$35 ones from Old Navy that combine both. Then add a cropped sweater like Oprah for an entire celebrity-inspired ’fit. More than 100 shoppers have added them to their carts in the last 12 hours alone, per the brand, and as of right now, they’re sold out in four sizes — don’t let yours be next.
Spanx Jean-ish Ankle Leggings
While Garner’s pants looked like actual jeans, you can always take a trick from the fashion playbook of the early aughts and settle on a pair of jeggings — yes, jean leggings. These Spanx ones “look just like regular jeans,” according to one shopper, and even have real pockets in the back to make them look like so. Plus, they’ll minimize spillage with their interior shaping panel and the skinny leg can be tucked into tall boots with no problems.
