Jennifer Garner and Merrin Dungey have an “Alias” reunion on SAG-AFTRA picket line: 'Fight for what's right'

Jennifer Garner and Merrin Dungey haven't forgotten that Francie doesn't like coffee ice cream.
The two former Alias stars proved that point Monday when they reunited on the front lines of Hollywood's concurrent actors' and writers' strikes, a moment they both captured on Instagram.
Posting an upbeat photo of the pair smiling big with their arms around each other, Garner wrote, "We had coffee, but not coffee ice cream! #IYKYK Thank you for our picketing date, @realmerrindungey, I love you."
Dungey posted the same photo and added, "Happy to walk the line and fight for what's right instead of fighting each other! Coffee was had but no coffee ice cream. Love you my sweet @jennifer.garner!!"
Fans of the J.J. Abrams-created spy thriller, which ran for five seasons on ABC from 2001 to 2006, will recall that it was coffee ice cream which ultimately led to Garner's Sydney Bristow realizing that her best friend and roommate, Francie (Dungey), wasn't who she thought she was.
In a pivotal moment at the end of Alias season 2, Will (Bradley Cooper) figured out that Francie was murdered by a lookalike assassin named Allison Doren (also played by Dungey), who assumed her identity. After realizing this, he left a voicemail for Sydney, which she received when she was at home relaxing with "Francie." But it wasn't until Sydney offered her some coffee ice cream, which she ate willingly, that Sydney figured out for herself that her roommate had indeed been replaced. Realizing her mistake, Allison memorably told Sydney, "I just remembered, Francie doesn't like coffee ice cream," before the two engaged in an epic showdown.

Garner, Dungey, and their fellow SAG-AFTRA members have been on strike since July 14, after contract negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers broke down. Screenwriters represented by the WGA have been on strike even longer, since May.
Both unions have expressed concerns about issues including streaming residuals, job security, and the use of A.I. technology in TV and filmmaking. The studios, meanwhile, are facing such challenges as changing viewing habits, continued fallout from the pandemic, and pressure from Wall Street.
