Jennifer Aniston experienced some “happy tears” while reflecting on the legacy of her hit 1990s sitcom Friends, which made her and her fellow costars—including the late Matthew Perry—household names.

For Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series, Aniston sat down with Abbott Elementary’s Quinta Brunson for an emotional conversation about the 30th anniversary of Friends. In a teaser clip posted on Variety’s social media, a producer can be heard directing Brunson to ask Aniston “what it’s like to watch Friends now.” The prompt immediately sparked an emotional reaction in Aniston, who began to tear up.

Concerned, Brunson asked Aniston, “Do you want a minute? We don’t have to talk about [it].” Aniston responded, “No, sorry, I just started thinking about—” to which Brunson replied, “I know.”

Aniston then assured Brunson, “No, I’m okay. It’s happy tears.”

Later in the conversation, Aniston recalled a sweet memory of Perry, who unexpectedly passed away last October.

“I remember the day that [Friends] was going to premiere on television, on NBC: Matthew Perry and I were having lunch somewhere, and we knew Lisa [Kudrow] was getting her hair colored,” Aniston said. “So we ran into the hair salon, and I snuck up—she was in the sink—and I took the nozzle from the guy that was supposed to be doing it and just started washing her hair. It definitely flew out of control, and that was unfortunate. But the excitement we had, it feels like yesterday.”

She added, “The fact that it’s had this long, wonderful life and it still means a lot to people is one of the greatest gifts I think all five of us—all six of us—we never could imagine. And we see each other. I talked on FaceTime with Court[eney Cox] last night for an hour, and Lisa and the boys, and we just have a really—it’s a family forever.”
