Jennie Goes Jazz: Hear Blackpink Singer’s Piano Version of ‘You & Me’

Days after Blackpink member Jennie released her latest solo single, “You & Me,” she has decided to jazz it up. An updated version of the tune subtitled “Jazz ver.” removes the original’s squeaky synths, helium-pitched backup vocals, and handclaps in favor of twinkling piano, shimmying tambourine, and finger snaps. There’s even a Latin jazz flare to the rhythms that support her chorus, as she sings, “I love you and me dancing in the moonlight/Nobody can see it’s just you and me tonight.”
The credits for the song include piano, bass, and drums, as well as “other” instruments. But in the video, it’s all about Jennie sitting on a stool, belting the song in front of stairs that lead up to a moon. There’s plenty of Jennie but not enough “you” in the clip.

“You & Me” is Jennie’s first solo effort since releasing “Solo” in 2018. She previously performed the tune on the opening night of Blackpink’s Born Pink tour last year. She started teasing the release of the song again recently. “I’m making a song that’s by Jennie, the most Jennie and something unique that is only Jennie’s,” she told the South Korean edition of Harper’s Bazaar.
Jennie’s most recent endeavor outside of Blackpink was singing on “One of the Girls” with the Weeknd and Lily Rose-Depp. The track was featured in the TV series The Idol, in which Jennie played an aspiring dancer and singer. She also recently sang “Killing Me Softly With His Song” at a Tokyo fashion show.
