Wednesday Addams, the dancing queen.

The Jenna Ortega-led series Wednesday has not only dominated Netflix streaming records in recent weeks — it’s also ignited a viral trend on TikTok, inspired by the titular character’s now-iconic dance scene in episode 4. For You Pages worldwide are riddled with recreations of the routine, as “#wednesdaydance” surpasses 480 million views on the app.

Wednesday Addams showcases her entrancing moves at Nevermore Academy’s annual Rave’N Dance, which she attends with Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan). The song she dances to is The Cramps’ 1981 track, “Goo Goo Muck.” (The dance has also gone viral on TikTok with Lady Gaga’s “Bloody Mary.”)

You might be thinking that a trained dancer choreographed the routine — but nope. In an interview with Netflix, Jenna revealed that she created the dance herself. “I choreographed that myself and I think it’s very obvious that I’m not a dancer or a choreographer,” the actress shared, adding that she felt “insecure” about the steps. But castmates Emma Myers (Enid Sinclair) and Hunter describe it as their “favorite scene” and “amazing.”

Since the series’ debut, “Goo Goo Muck” has resurged in the charts, according to NME. Reminiscent of Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” in Stranger Things 4, “Goo Goo Muck” has experienced a 50-fold increase in streams, the outlet reports.

But recently, Wednesday has received backlash after Jenna disclosed in a November 10 interview with NME that she had COVID-19 during the filming of this pivotal scene. Social media users have noted how dangerous it was for production to allow her to film while COVID-positive.

“It’s crazy because it was my first day with COVID so it was awful to film,” the actress said. “Yeah, I woke up and — it’s weird, I never get sick and when I do it’s not very bad — I had the body aches. I felt like I’d been hit by a car and that a little goblin had been let loose in my throat and was scratching the walls of my esophagus. They were giving me medicine between takes because we were waiting on the positive result.”

Jenna added that she asked to “redo” the scene, but was told there wasn’t enough time to do so. According to NME, the series’ production team claimed that “strict COVID protocols were followed and once the positive test was confirmed production removed Jenna from set.”
