Jenna Lyons is giving some insight on the engagement-like ring from her girlfriend, Cass Bird.

While appearing on a new episode of Watch What Happens Live alongside Julia Fox, the Real Housewives of New York City star, 55, remained coy about the dazzling accessory first spotted on her ring finger in September.

“I wanna say congratulations because I think you’re engaged, but are you engaged?” asked host Andy Cohen who, like the rest of us, was wondering if Lyons had reached a new level of love after posting an Instagram photo that seemed to hint she did.

This is what Lyons had to say.

“So basically, here’s the story. My girlfriend, who I adore, kept telling me that I had to button my shirt, and I said ‘If you want me to button my shirt, you have to put a ring on it,’ " explained the Bravo star, who is known for showing off her décolletage.

Cohen’s confusion prompted Lyons to add, “We’re just really happy and she gave me the ring that I wanted.”

When asked to once again confirm if she’s engaged, Lyons simply said she’s “very happy.”

Last month, a source confirmed to PEOPLE that Bird, an established photographer, hadn't popped the question.

"She's not engaged," a source close to Lyons shared of the couple, whose romance was first revealed in a New York Times feature published in June. "She's had that ring forever, and though it does look like an engagement ring, it's not."

Lyons, a former J. Crew designer and president, is the owner of a massive wardrobe with an impressive jewelry collection, and it’s not uncommon for the star to wear engagement-style rings on her ring finger from time to time (see here and here). The ring in question just happens to be one of many pieces she keeps in rotation and features frequently.

Lyons has previously shared on the Bravo series that she wants to keep an air of privacy around her relationship with Bird.

When asked why she was keeping her girlfriend's identity a secret in a confessional aired in a July 23 episode of RHONY, Lyons shared, "My life has put me in the public eye for my job and other things I've done. And that is my choice. And someone does not want to be in that with me, then I have to respect that."

However, when speaking to the New York Times, she revealed that she ultimately told her castmates before the end of the season.

“The words come out of your mouth, and you’re like, I can’t take those back,” Lyons said of talking to her costars about her love life. “It has not been the part of my life that I have been very successful in."
