Jenna Fischer Says She Has 'Not Been Approached' to Appear on Upcoming “The Office” Spinoff (Exclusive)

Fischer, who played Pam Beesly across the show's nine seasons, tells PEOPLE exclusively: "I don't know a lot of details, but I'm not involved"

The Office has a spinoff that is currently in the works, but will stars from the original NBC series be involved?

Reports regarding a new iteration emerged in March, with The Wrap indicating that Greg Daniels — who adapted the U.K. original, led by Ricky Gervais — is teaming up with Nathan for You co-creator Michael Koman for the project. And according to Deadline, it "would likely be set in a new office with new characters but live within the same world as the Steve Carell-led mockumentary series which follows employees at the Scranton, Pennsylvania, branch of the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company."

Jenna Fischer, who played Pam Beesly across the show's nine seasons from 2005 to 2013, tells PEOPLE exclusively that she has not been asked to participate in the upcoming series.

"No, I have not been approached," the actress, 50, says while promoting a new AT&T Business ad campaign. "There is a spinoff in the works. Greg Daniels and Michael Koman are working on it."

Fischer adds: "I don't know a lot of details, but I'm not involved. I haven't been approached about it."

Although she is not currently set to appear in the new installment, Fischer still holds her days on the beloved sitcom close — and remains in touch with her former costars.

"We have a text thread. It's called Office Peeps, and we all text on it, send pictures and updates and all the things you have on a text thread," she says. " We just have our text thread. But then, we all run into each other and get together on the side. But we have our text thread, it's going strong."

Recently, Fischer was also able to reunite with castmates Rainn Wilson, Craig Robinson, Creed Bratton, Kate Flannery and Brian Baumgartner to help show how AT&T's reliable Next Level Network can help small businesses flourish. Describing her on set experience, Fischer says, "It was so much fun and totally seamless. We locked into our chemistry together immediately. It was so thrilling. It was over too fast. I wish it had gone longer."

"I think [Ed Helms' character] Andy had a line where he says, 'If only you knew you were in the good old days when you were in them.' I'm paraphrasing, but it's that idea," she adds. "And, listen, we knew we had a great thing when we were filming The Office. But this was that chance to go back and re-experience that magic for just a moment, and that is such a gift to be able to do that."
