In PEOPLE's first look at 'Devil on My Doorstep', a social media influencer becomes two people's 'object of affection and obsession'

What happens when someone becomes the object of obsession of not just one stalker but two? In Lifetime’s new thriller Devil on My Doorstep, a social media influencer named Natasha Wallace, played by Jenna Dewan, finds out for herself.

When Chloe (Lyndon Smith), a delivery dispatcher at a local shipping facility, notices that one of the delivery drivers, Theo (Steve Kazee), is stealing Natasha’s packages just so he can meet her, Chloe decides to get closer to Natasha, too. But in the process, Chloe develops a “full-blown obsession” with the influencer, according to the film’s press release.

In PEOPLE's exclusive first look at the film’s teaser trailer, Natasha walks into, presumably, her home.

“It is the start of a new era,” says Sloan (Rachel Lindsay). “You’re an author. You’ve just hit a million followers. It’s just the start.”

Chloe, meanwhile, starts researching Natasha online and essentially falls down a rabbit hole. In the following scene, she peruses a bookstore, searching for her new favorite influencer’s book.

“I can’t believe I wrote a book,” Natasha says in front of a bathroom mirror, as Sloan gives her a pep talk, saying, “Remember, diamonds are forged in the fire. Don’t you forget that.”

In another scene, Natasha officially meets Chloe, posing as a neighbor’s house sitter. She quickly embraces Chloe as a new friend over a glass of wine.

But just as quickly as the teaser sets up Natasha for success, it quickly yanks the rug away, introducing a darker tone. Cutting to another bookstore, Chloe catches Theo peering through a bookcase at Natasha, who is reading from her new book.

“I have this acquaintance, and I think that something bad is on the horizon,” Chloe predicts.

Natasha confesses in the next scene to Chloe that she’s headed out on a date. But when she opens the door, the date turns out to be Theo.

“This is going to sound crazy, but I think he’s dangerous,” Chloe warns Sloan later.

“He is, or you are?” Sloan shoots back.

In a montage of brief, tense scenes, Sloan accuses Chloe of “something being off” with her. Natasha, meanwhile, accuses Theo of being “crazy” before the teaser shows the influencer shrieking behind the wheel of her car, and Theo forcing his hand through the front door of Natasha’s home.

The cast’s names flash across the screen in quick succession, before the teaser cuts to another scene in which Theo angrily points a finger in his face, threatening Chloe.

“Stay away from her, or I’ll make sure that you do,” he says before the film’s title dramatically appears onscreen.

The Lifetime thriller marks another collaboration for Dewan and Kazee, who first met in 2012 and announced their engagement in February 2020. In May 2022, the pair shared a special moment during an episode of the CBS reality competition series, Come Dance with Me, where Dewan served as a judge. Kazee appeared on the show and performed "Falling Slowly" from the musical Once, with Dewan also participating in the number.

Devil on My Doorstep allowed Dewan and Kazee to pull double duty, serving as executive producers and the film's stars. Executive producer Kyle McNally said Jenna was "absolutely thrilled" to work with her real-life fiancé "both in front of and behind the camera."

McNally adds, "It's such a fun, suspenseful story with a lot of twists, and we had a great time making it,”
