Jenna Dewan is promoting her new book Gracefully You: How to Live Your Best Life Every Day, and she's opening up about her relationship with her ex-husband, fellow actor Channing Tatum. They were one of the internet's favorite couples after they met and fell in love on the set of Step Up and fans took it hard when they split.

Dewan gets candid about why they broke up and how it was best for their whole family in the long run.

Opening Up About Her Divorce

She writes in her book that the relationship just wasn't healthy any more.

"I’d come to realize the dynamic I was in wasn’t serving me nor was it serving my daughter [Everly]. First and foremost I had to accept the realization this isn’t working and had moved into hurting."

She explains that the split right before she started filming the second season of The World Of Dance and they kept it on the down low during production.

Being A Couple In The Public Eye

She also opened up about how their relationship was idealized by fans and that kind of shallow representation was difficult for her.

"The public saw Channing and I in this idealized romanticized light. This made things difficult for me because I like being as honest and real as I can."

She gave a more accurate picture of what she's like instead.

"Here’s the honest truth about my breakup: Yes, I carried a rose quartz in my bra and yes, I took herbal supplements to help me heal, but also my mom flew in to be by my side and I called my friends late at night to sob into their ears. You need to embrace it all and allow everything positive and productive to be part of the process. It is very important to surround yourself with people who lift you up, make you feel love and appreciated."

Moving On

Dewan is in a much better place now. She's in a loving relationship with actor Steve Kazee, with whom she is expecting her second child. . Tatum has also moved on with singer Jessie J.
