Jenna Bush Hager is looking back on her daughter's recent birthday party gone wrong.

Speaking with PEOPLE ahead of their Mother's Day special, Savannah GuthrieHoda Kotb, Bush Hager, Dylan Dreyer and Sheinelle Jones reflected on the tight bond they all share as working mothers, noting that sometimes it can be exhausting to balance both motherhood and a full-time job.

"It's kind of fun to take it in for a second. Because I feel like we're all sprinting, dead sprinting and exhausted," Kotb, 59, tells PEOPLE of her workload. "And suddenly now you get to pause and reflect and take it in and talk about motherhood. Because sometimes you just do it."

Kotb and Bush Hager, 42, then talked about a story they shared earlier this spring about how the mom of three temporarily "lost" a child at her daughter's birthday party at the American Dream Mall. Bush Hager recalled saying "Mama's done," revealing a list of different things she would no longer do anymore.

"We were supposed to talk about Coachella," Bush Hager remembers.

"Yeah, we couldn't. You know why? What happened was Jenna took her daughter and 20 young kids to the Dream Mall and she lost one of them," Kotb laughs. "And then she was exhausted and we realized that there's too much on the plate."

"There's too many times that our kids are saying, 'I don't want my dinner, I don't want it like that. I don't like how it feels,' " Kotb continues.

"I'm sorry I lost a child," Bush Hager says. "Yes, I mean, it happens," Kotb responds.

"But I lost a child because I've been overwhelmed by my own children," Bush Hager says. "So mama is done."

In April, the mom of three shared the story of how she'd accidentally, temporarily lost a child at her daughter Mila's 11th birthday on an episode of Today with Hoda & Jenna.

Speaking about the American Dream Mall, Bush Hager explained that it's a mall, but also a water park, which is where the party took place. "And we were in the water park — I forgot my bathing suit. I 'forgot' my bathing suit," Bush Hager said. "But Mila and her friends had a blast. And it was wonderful until we lost one child."

"That happens," Kotb consoled her friend.

"We had a partner system. I was a teacher, and the night before I was sort of thinking, ‘What am I doing?’ " Bush Hager said. "Even in New Orleans on our road to the airport, Laura was like, ‘Get matching rash guards.’ Which was smart, but they couldn’t come in time so I just let it go and thought, ‘I was a teacher. I took 24 kids on a subway in Washington, D.C. by myself. I got this.’"

"Well turns out, I really didn’t got it when it’s your own children who don't listen to you the way that your students did. I said, ‘Stay with your partner.' That’s the No. 1 rule. And the No. 2 rule is, ‘Be up here at 2:15.' Well nobody turned up at 2:15," Bush Hager continued, noting that Poppy's smallest friend ended up being lost.

After they finally found the child in the water park, Bush Hager said she was "done" with water parks.

"I am retiring from Water Parks — even though the America Dream Mall, if I go to any, that’s the one I’d go to do. I am retiring from big parties," she added.
