Former first daughters Jenna Bush Hager and Barbara Pierce Bush had several things in common growing up — including a middle school crush!

On Tuesday’s episode of Today with Hoda & Jenna, Barbara joined her fraternal twin sister as a guest of the show.

During the broadcast, they discussed all sorts of topics, such as how their father, former President George W. Bush, taught them the importance of being on time at an early age. They also acknowledged their late grandmother's legacy with the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital in Portland, Maine.

Then, after talking about family, the twins found themselves enmeshed in some playful banter while recalling the details of an adolescent love triangle.

“We didn’t have the same taste," said Jenna, who co-hosts the fourth hour of Today alongside Hoda Kotb. "Except for I do think in seventh grade we both liked the same person for a brief moment."

At the mention of their shared crush, Barbara interjected and said, “Well, he liked me."

Jenna, seemingly confused by Barbara's statement, responded, “No... the guy I dated that gave me a frog ring in Central Park?"

Barbara clarified that even though she didn't get a frog ring from the boy like Jenna did, she was certain that she was his original crush.

"I don’t think he liked you first,” Jenna said with skepticism, launching the ladies into a debate over who was the first to win him over.

“Yes, he did. He told me I was cute," Barbara said. "And in seventh grade, if a boy tells you you’re cute…"

Not buying it, Jenna shot back, “But then why did he not ask you out, and he asked me out?"

Barbara’s explanation was simple: “Because then he liked you!”

The conversation was all in good fun as both twins, now 41, have long-since gotten over the unnamed boy from their youth.

Jenna and her husband, Henry Hager, began dating during her father's presidency and have been married since 2008. They share three children: Mila, 10, Poppy, 7, and Hal, 4.

Barbara tied the knot with Craig Coyne in 2018, and the couple welcomed a daughter, Cora Georgia, in September 2021.

In April 2022, Barbara told PEOPLE that Cora, who was born "almost six weeks early," stayed at the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) named after her late grandmother. At the time, she and her husband "had no idea" it was named in her honor.

It felt divine that she was born in Maine near where we were married and where we have so many memories as a family. Then I felt how poignant and meaningful it was in a place that meant something to my grandmother."
