Jenna Bush Hager’s son Hal made his Today with Hoda & Jenna debut this week.

Four–and-a-half-year-old Hal made his very first appearance on his mom’s morning show in honor of its fifth anniversary… and it went about as well as you’d expect.

“We have a guest. Remember I told you? We’ve been waiting for this booking. It took a lot of phone calls and crying but after five years, this guest is finally making his appearance. There’s a clue, it’s a boy,” co-host Hoda Kotb teased, introducing the youngster. “Ladies and gentlemen, Hal Hager!”

The energetic toddler ran onto the set carrying two stuffed animals. With his arms outstretched, he beelined to his famous mom who quickly scooped him up.

Shy and overwhelmed, little Hal buried his head into Jenna’s neck and covered his ears. But he never stopped smiling.

“Well, you know what? Hal, we’ve been waiting for you for five years to come on. Do you know why?” Hoda asked.

“Why?” Hal squeaked out.

“Because you were in your mommy’s tummy and now you’re 5 years old, almost!" Hoda said.

Hal is the youngest of the three children Jenna shares with husband Henry Hager: Mila, 10, Poppy, 8 and Hal. Both girls have appeared on their mother’s show before.

"It was a little shaky," Jenna admitted to People after Hal’s episode aired. "It was a tough booking. We've been literally trying for years to get him."

"He's high maintenance," she joked. "He's high maintenance and he was a good sport."

Jenna shared that Mila was actually “egging” her little brother to say some “naughty things” on air. "But he knows better,” she said. “He was the cutest."
