Jenn Tran is the new Bachelorette

The 25-year-old physician's assistant student is the franchise's first-ever Asian lead.

In a move that no one in Bachelor Nation probably saw coming, ABC just revealed their new Bachelorette — and it isn't frontrunner Maria, or Joey Graziadei's runner-up Daisy, or even fan-favorite Lexi.

It's Jenn Trann, the 25-year-old physician's assistant student from Miami, Florida. In addition to being a surprise pick, Jenn is also the first-ever Asian star of a Bachelor franchise. Host Jesse Palmer and former Bachelorette Charity Lawson made the announcement during the live After the Final Rose special on Monday night.

"I'm overwhelmed, it's crazy," Tran said. "It feels so surreal to be sitting here." She went on to say that she feels "so, so grateful" to be the first Asian lead in the Bachelor franchise. "Growing up, I always wanted to see Asian representation on TV," she explained. "Now, to be here today... being like, 'I am going to be the main character in my story,' I can't help but think of how many people I'm inspiring and how many lives I can impact."

Jenn was a consistently pleasant presence on Joey's season of The Bachelor. She arrived in a go-kart on premiere night, and went surfing with the Bachelor during their one-on-one date in week three. When the group headed to Montreal in week six, Jenn stood out on the group date with her... let's say interesting poutine recipe, which Joey gamely sampled. Despite his "connection" with Jenn, Joey ultimately sent her packing the week before hometown dates.

During her Hot Seat™ segment at the Women Tell All reunion on March 18, Jenn talked about how her experience on The Bachelor helped strengthen her relationship with her mother. "She's never really seen me as, like, a full adult," she explained. "But watching me on TV and watching me fall in love, she's really seen me grow into my own, and it's been monumental for our relationship." Jenn went on to praise her mother, who came to America from Vietnam and raised Jenn and her brother alone after Jenn's father left the family. "She's the woman I want to be when I grow up," said Jenn. "She honestly just means everything to me."
