Lewis has seemingly done it all with a career that spans four decades, so to many fans, this moment was long overdue. Furthermore, her dedicated fans have consistently questioned why the Strong Medicine actress had not received the proper recognition on the Walk of Fame. But for Lewis, the only accolade she had been missing was the accolade of good mental health.

During her ceremony speech in Los Angeles, the Black-ish actress expressed the real reason why it took so long for her to be included on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“What you all don’t know,” began the iconic thespian. “I just wasn’t ready. I had not done the actual work. The real work was off-stage and off-camera.”

Jenifer Lewis paused for a second, allowing her eyes to meet the audience’s gaze before entering her revelation.

“When I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, somehow I found the strength and courage to say three of the most powerful words in the English Language,” Jenifer expresses, gently warding off tears. “I need help.”

As she was immortalized by the star-shaped granite in Hollywood, the powerful speech was a capstone to a storied career that shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.
