Starz Releases Trailer for Wrestling Drama ‘Heels’ (TV News Roundup)

Starz released a trailer for its new wrestling drama “Heels,” which will premiere on Aug. 15 at 9 p.m.

Set in a close-knit community in Georgia, “Heels” follows the people of a small town who chase their dreams in the world of independent professional wrestling. It centers on a family-owned wrestling promotion as two brothers and rivals war over their late father’s legacy. In the ring, one must play the good guy and the other their nemesis, otherwise known as “the heel.” In the real world, these characters prove difficult to live up to — or hard to leave behind.

Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig portray the set of siblings, older brother Jack Spade and younger brother Ace Spade, respectively. The cast also includes Alison Liff, Mary McCormack, Kelli Berglund, Allen Maldonado, James Harrison and Chris Bauer.
“Heels” is executive produced by writer Michael Waldron, Mike O’Malley, Julie Yorn, Christopher Donnelly, Patrick Walmsley and Peter Segal, who directs several episodes. It is produced by Lionsgate TV for Starz in association with Paramount Television Studios.

Netflix announced new competition series “Bake Squad” will premiere Aug. 11. In it, four bakers, chosen by Milk Bar founder Christina Tosi, will battle it out to see who can create the best dessert. Netflix announced that “Family Reunion” Part 4 will premiere on Aug. 26. Created by showrunner Meg DeLoatch, the series follows the McKellan family as they settle into their new lives in the South. “Family Reunion” stars Loretta Devine, Tia Mowry-Hardrict, Anthony Alabi, Talia Jackson, Jordyn Raya James, Isaiah Russell-Bailey and Cameron J. Wright, while Richard Roundtree, Telma Hopkins and Warren Burke play recurring roles. Watch a trailer below.

FIRST LOOKS

Netflix released a teaser for Season 3 of “Sex Education,” out Sept. 17. The first look shows Jemima Kirk as Moordale Secondary School’s new head teacher, Hope Haddon, who aims to to return the school to a pillar of excellence. The PSA-like video suggests Hope has already swindled the students into rehabilitating Moordale’s image. Season 3 kicks off a new year at Moordale with Jean’s (Gillian Anderson) baby on the way, Eric (Ncuti Gatwa) and Adam (Connor Swindells) as an official couple, and Otis (Asa Butterfield) having casual sex. Under the eye of head teacher Hope, Aimee (Aimee Lou Wood) discovers feminism, Jackson (Kedar Williams-Stirling) develops a new crush, and Maeve’s (Emma Mackey) lost voicemail still looms. “Sex Education” is written by creator Laurie Nunn, Sophie Goodhart, Selina Lim, Mawaan Rizwan, Temi Wilkey, Alice Seabright and Jodie Mitchell. Season 3 was directed by Ben Taylor and Runyararo Mapfumo. Nunn, Taylor and Campbell serve as executive producers. Watch the trailer below.

EVENTS

The stars of “Impractical Jokers,” also known as The Tenderloins, announced “The Scoopski Potatoes Tour,” hitting arenas in 2021 and 2022. Consisting of never-before-seen videos and storytelling stand-up, the tour will kick off in Glendale, Ariz. on Nov. 19 and wrap up in Norfolk, Va. on Aug. 19, 2022. The Tenderloins consist of James “Murr” Murray, Brian “Q” Quinn, Joe Gatto and Sal Vulcano, who recently launched Season 3 of game show “The Misery Index” and renewed “Impractical Jokers” for Season 10. Tickets for all shows will be available on July 23.

LATE NIGHT

Dwayne Johnson, Joshua Jackson and Swedish House Mafia will be on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” while “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” will have on Joy Reid and Alessia Cara. Shailene Woodley, Henry Winkler and Taku Hirano will appear on “Late Night with Seth Meyers.”
