Jelly Roll returns to Antioch High School

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Country music phenomenon and Antioch native Jelly Roll returned to his roots Wednesday as he visited his alma mater, Antioch High School.

Known for giving back to the community who raised him, Jelly Roll, AKA Jason DeFord, was welcomed back to Antioch to visit with Robert “Rock” Kennedy’s music tech class, according to Metro Nashville Public School.

According to the district, Jelly Roll gave the students feedback on their compositions and reconnected with one of his own former teachers before speaking to and performing in front of a student assembly.

“You can do it, I promise you!” he reportedly urged the students as he talked about his story of overcoming hardship through resilience.

Jelly Roll hosts toy drives at Walmarts around Nashville

Jelly Roll’s visit was organized by Save the Music. Jelly Roll has established himself as a charitable performer who is dedicated to giving back to where he came from. His ongoing mission is to help the underserved youth of Nashville, including funding a recording studio inside the Davidson County Juvenile Detention Center.
