Jeffree Star has been slammed on social media after making recent comments on a podcast suggesting that non-binary people do not exist. Instead, the beauty content creator and influencer says that you are either male or female. Now, former fans are taking to social media to accuse Star of contradicting their prior position on gender identity, and “throwing the entire LGBTQ+ community under the bus” to make money.

“That’s why the conservatives like me, because I’m just real,” Jeffree Star said, before launching into a tirade against the non-binary community. He continued: “You’re not ‘they’ and ‘them,’ you’re trans, you’re male, or you’re female.” This has led to some backlash on Twitter, as prior comments made by Star are referred to.

This isn’t the first time Jeffree has called gender pronouns “stupid,” as he starred on the Impaulsive podcast in 2022 and said that that “half of” the terms were “stupid.” Star also said he hated the term “pansexual,” but that is how he would identify if he had to label himself.

Those who have kept up-to-date with Star’s content and videos throughout the years, however, and now saying that these latest comments are hypocritical. They point to the fact that in one of the videos Star did with fellow YouTube creator, Shane Dawson, he proudly points out his company’s “all gender restroom.”

Due to the contradictions in Star’s comments, some believe that he is simply saying whatever he needs to say to gain attention. One Twitter user said that “he is doing this to stay relevant and revive his 2019 fame,” before adding that “we just have to stop giving him the time of day.”

Star has responded to the backlash in a series of Instagram videos, claiming that he “never said” that “non-binary people don’t exist,” and that he was simply saying he doesn’t “agree with” the pronouns “they” and “them.”

He concluded: “I’m old school. This new, all these fuckin’ thirty terms, girl, stop. Stop complicating everything. Just chill. Take a hit. Relax. And don’t put words in my fuckin’ mouth.”
