Jeff Bridges 'Returns to the Grid' in New “Tron” Sequel, Over 40 Years After Original

In a photo shared Monday, April 29, by Walt Disney Studios, the actor can be seen reading a script for the upcoming sequel 'Tron: Ares'

Jeff Bridges is returning for more Tron!

After first appearing as Kevin Flynn in the original 1982 film, the 74-year-old actor appeared as the character for 2010's Tron: Legacy — and now, he's "excited" to reprise his role once again in Tron: Ares, he confirmed on the Film Comment podcast recently.

"Jared Leto is the star of this third one, and I’m really anxious to work with him. I’ve admired his work," Bridges said on the podcast.

Walt Disney Studios also confirmed Bridges' return, sharing a photo to X (formerly Twitter) that showed him reading a script for the new movie.

"Jeff Bridges returns to the grid. #TronAres," the post's text read.

Bridges is also looking forward to seeing "what the technology is gonna be all about" for the newest film, considering the large gap of years between.

“When I did Tron: Legacy, we had to put all these dots on our face and all these kinda things,” Bridges said. “And that’s [probably] all passé. I had to play myself as a young guy — well, as another character, but the same guy, but it was gonna be digitally created."

"I think it was [de-aging], but I didn’t like the way I looked in it. I felt like I looked more like Bill Maher than myself," he said, laughing. "It was kinda bizarre."

The Big Lebowski star went on, of Tron: Ares, " I hear, in a way, there's even less AI stuff in this, and [more] practical sets. They're beautiful sets that I've seen."

The Tron franchise started in 1982 with Bridges playing computer hacker Flynn, who gets sucked into the software world of a computer and must find his way out.

Tron: Legacy revived the cult classic almost three decades later, with Garrett Hedlund starring as Sam, Flynn's son. In the film, Flynn had disappeared, and Sam accidentally got sucked into the virtual world again.

Aside from Bridges and Leto, 52, the cast of Tron: Ares includes Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan and Gillian Anderson.

Garth Davis (Lion, Mary Magdalene) is on board to direct, from a screenplay by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne. Leto is also a co-producer on the film.
