Jeff Bridges & ‘Hell Or High Water’ Team On Love & Texas – The Contenders Video

“How do we love the ones we love?” Hell or High Water actor Ben Foster said of the acclaimed Texas-based family heist picture from CBS Films. “How do we take care of the people closest to us, and what would you do for the person you love the dearest? And that’s where the lines of love get blurred in terms of ethics.”

Speaking to a packed DGA on November 5 at The Contenders Presented by Deadline, Foster was joined onstage by fellow HOHW stars Jeff Bridges, Chris Pine and Gil Birmingham plus director David Mackenzie.

Having debuted at the Cannes Film Festival in May and released on August 12, the Taylor Sheridan-written film follows brothers Toby Howard (Pine) and ex-con Tanner (Foster) as they tear up the Lone Star State in a string of bank robberies to raise money to save the family farm. Texas Rangers Marcus Hamilton (Bridges) and Alberto Parker (Birmingham) are after them and in search of something else themselves, as are the siblings.

“The spirit of Texas is in every pore of this film,” Mackenzie told me of the New Mexico shot film at the all-day awards-season event. “I think we all tried to embrace that.”
