The Dude still abides. Jeff Bridges tweeted out a teaser video of himself appearing as his iconic character from “The Big Lebowski,” the 1998 Coen Brothers cult classic on Thursday morning.
“Can’t be living in the past man. Stay tuned,” Bridges tweeted. The video shows Bridges, dressed as The Dude (aka Jeffrey Lebowski), turning to the camera looking down while wearing sunglasses and laughing. It then concludes with a tumbleweed going past a red carpet and revealing “2.3.19.”
That, of course, is the day of Super Bowl LIII, and it’s unclear at this point whether Bridges is appearing in a Super Bowl ad, or if there are plans for something larger that will be revealed on that day. Representatives for Bridges declined to comment. The video also ends with a trademark for “Universal City Studios,” and representatives for Universal did not immediately respond to comment.
There has long been speculation about a “Big Lebowski” reunion, reboot or sequel. For the film’s 20th anniversary in October 2018, Bridges appeared with co-stars Steve Buscemi and John Goodman for a lengthy “Today” show interview.
John Turturro also revived his character Jesus Quintana, the trash-talking bowler in “The Big Lebowski,” for a planned spinoff film called “Going Places.”
During last year’s Super Bowl, Chris Hemsworth faked people out into thinking there might be a new “Crocodile Dundee” movie. So maybe you don’t think there’s a chance at another “Lebowski” movie, but that’s just like, your opinion, man.
