Jeannie Mai is enjoying Mother's Day with her little girl.

The America's Test Kitchen host, 45, spent the holiday volunteering with daughter Monaco, 2, sharing scenes from their day together on Instagram on Sunday, May 12. In a lengthy caption alongside a Reel, Mai wrote about how fortunate she feels to be a mom to her daughter.

"On this Mother’s Day, I experienced a moment that will forever define my understanding of motherhood. With @smiletrain, the world’s largest cleft charity, Monaco and I spent time with children born with cleft for the first time. Her initial fear and hesitation were palpable, as the differences seemed vast and daunting to her young heart," Mai wrote.

Elsewhere in the caption, Mai wrote, "Watching her embrace these children with such tender empathy and selflessness, I was profoundly humbled. Monaco’s actions were a poignant reminder that love and compassion are innate, transcending age and understanding."

"She taught me that the essence of motherhood lies in learning from our children, in seeing the world through their eyes, and in witnessing the boundless capacity for empathy within their hearts."

At the end of April, Mai spoke with PEOPLE about how she's adjusting to being a single mom as she navigates her separation from estranged husband Jeezy, 46.

"I'm doing good. I was able to get good sleep last night, which is always a big deal," Mai told PEOPLE. "My days now are ranked on whether or not I had six hours or eight hours. Last night I got seven so I feel very good about that. I'm blessed."

Amid her custody battle with Jeezy, Mai said she's focused on her mental well-being, along with caring for Monaco.

"I think the fact that I surround myself with so many things that I love to do. whether it's working out, finding new play dates and things that Monaco likes to do like ballet or scootering...I've been researching how I can get more music into her life. And also cooking. Cooking has really been my big thing. There is no room for feeling lost in your life when you fill it with things that you love for you."

Asked how life has been as a working single mom, "I've just been managing it," she said. "I take every single issue, whether it's my career or it's my parenting skills or my personal time, I take it as I need and I give it my full attention when I'm in it."

The rapper filed for divorce in September 2023 after two years of marriage. According to the new filing, both parties “agreed upon a visitation schedule through the end of 2023.” However, the situation is “becoming increasingly less feasible.”
