Jazz, opera and dance: 7 events for this weekend

1Good, old-fashioned fairy tale The Umbrella Children's Theatre is presenting a production of "Paja and The Peanuts and The Picky Princesses" at Teatro Paraguas. The curtain goes up at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17; 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children, at teatroparaguasnm.org (but no one will be turned away for lack of funds). Teatro Paraguas is located at 3205 Calle Marie Suite B in Santa Fe.

2Airmen of Note The United States Air Force's premiere jazz ensemble is coming to New Mexico for a duo of concerts. The band gets going at the Kiva Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, and then will play at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18 at V. Sue Cleveland High School. The concerts are free, but reservations are required at ticketmaster.com for the Albuquerque concert, and at eventbrite.com for the Rio Rancho event. Kiva Auditorium is located at 401 Second St. NW. CHS is located at 4800 Cleveland Heights Road NE in Rio Rancho.

3What's your bid? The Maxwell Museum is holding its annual Rug Appraisal Clinic and Silent Auction from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at 500 University Blvd. NW. Experts from R.B. Burnham & Company in Arizona will appraise Native American artworks, and those wishing to participate can bring up to five items per person, with a $10 fee per item. Then head out to the Prairie Star Restaurant, 288 Prairie Star Road, Santa Ana Pueblo, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, for the museum's 14th annual Navajo Rug Auction fundraising event. 4Fall fun The West Mesa Community Center is hosting a free Fall Festival from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18. Festivities include a turkey raffle, pie walk, crafts, games, music and more. For more information, visit cabq.gov/events. The community center is located at 5500 Glenrio Road NW.

5Having Pride The 2024 New Mexico Pride Pageant is coming to the South Broadway Cultural Center for two days of talent, creativity and passion. The pageant starts at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, and Sunday, Nov. 19. Tickets are $35 for a single day, or $50 for a two-day pass, plus fees, at holdmyticket.com. The cultural center is located at 1025 Broadway Blvd. SE.

6An operatic retelling The Lensic and the Santa Fe Opera are bringing The Met: Live in HD to Santa Fe with "The Life and Times of Malcolm X." The opera reimagines the life of Malcolm X with baritone Will Liverman in the title role. Tickets for the 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, performance run $15-$28, plus fees, at tickets.lensic.org. The Lensic Performing Arts Center is located at 211 W. San Francisco St. in Santa Fe.

7Getting nostalgic Keshet Dance & Center for the Arts is bringing "Anemoia," an international collaboration between artists who have never met each other in person, to the stage for four shows. "Anemoia" takes the stage 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17; 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18; and 2 p.m Sunday, Nov. 19. Tickets run $0-$40 at keshetarts.org. Keshet is located at 4121 Cutler Ave. NE.
