JAY-Z Says Beyoncé's Renaissance World Tour Is 'Her Best' and Talks Feeling 'Proud' of Blue Ivy on Stage

Shawn "JAY-Z" Carter knows his wife Beyoncé is that girl.

In a new interview with CBS Mornings, the rap icon showered praise over Beyoncé's Renaissance World Tour and spoke about feeling proud of their daughter Blue Ivy for dancing alongside her mom on stage.

"My wife, I know how hard she works. For me, it’s her best tour," JAY-Z, 53, told host Gayle King. "It’s hard to really compare them, because they all have different things of genius. But this one, to me, felt the most complete, and on top of it, how inclusive it was."

The "99 Problems" performer said "the story of her Uncle Johnny" — a.k.a. Beyoncé's late gay uncle and "godmother," as she previously described him upon releasing Renaissance last year — is part of what made the tour so special.

"The story of her uncle Johnny and how everything came about, which goes from Johnny, the ancestors, to Blue," continued JAY-Z, speaking about his 11-year-old daughter. "And Blue, what makes me super proud, and I still get goosebumps seeing her walk on stage."

He then opened up about how well Blue has handled the complex experience of being the child of famous parents. "She’s been born into a life she didn’t ask for. So since she was born, she’s been in scrutiny and the public eye and everyone having an opinion of even a little girl, how she keeps her hair," said JAY-Z. "So for her to be on that stage and reclaim her power, and the song is called ‘My Power,’ you can’t write a better script."

Throughout the Renaissance World Tour, Blue joined Beyoncé on stage many nights to perform a choreographed dance to the empowering track "My Power" from The Lion King: The Gift.

JAY-Z especially loved "watching [Blue] grow" over her first major performances. "You know, she came out, it’s 80,000 people. She’s 11, so she’s nervous," he said. "I know her, so I know how nervous she was, and I know how frightened she was. And she wanted to do it."

Blue was ready to start performing as soon as the tour launched, but her parents made her wait until they knew she was ready. "She wanted to do it the first night, and we was like, ‘OK, if this is something you want to do, you can’t just go out there. You gotta go work with the dancers and go work,'" said JAY-Z. "And she worked every day. I watched her work hard. She had a little icy pack thing on her back some days."
