JAY-Z has settled the “$500,000 or lunch with JAY-Z” debate once and for all. A sneak peek into an interview with Gayle King saw the icon being asked about the meme. King was curious what Hov would recommend fans do in that situation, and Jay asserted they “gotta take the money.” He explained that all the wisdom he may impart to someone during dinner or lunch could be acquired from his music.

“You’ve got all that in the music for $10.99,” he said sternly. “That’s a bad deal! I wouldn’t tell you to cut a bad deal. Like, take the $500,000, go buy some albums, and listen to the albums. It’s all there. If you piece it together and really listen to the music for the words, for what it is, it’s all there.”

“Everything that I said was gonna happen, happened. Everything I said I wanted to do, I’ve done. There’s the blueprint,” Jay added. “The Blueprint, literally, to me and my life and my journey is there already.”

The infamous “Dinner with JAY-Z” meme debuted on the internet around 2017, according to Know Your Meme. The earliest account to spread the post was an Instagram user named hmtwnhero. This account posted a simple question that read, “$10,000 in cash of 10-minute dinner with JAY-Z?” At the time, most of the answers stated that taking the cash was the correct answer.

Recently a fan walked up to Hov and told him that he would also take the money over dinner. A fan ran up on Hov during the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Chargers Monday Night Football game on Oct. 16, telling the businessman they would take the money instead of the meal. Jay appeared unmoved after the exchange.

“Hey Hov, I’m taking that $500,000,” IG user Ruthlessrich shared on his Instagram. “I ain’t taking that dinner, I’m taking that $500,000. You feel me? Aye, it’s love though.” Jay then responded, “Be good, man.”

Gayle King and Hov’s rare interview occurred at the Brooklyn Public Library as the emcee gave the journalist a tour of his “The Book of HOV” exhibit. The full two-part interviews will premiere on CBS Mornings later this week.
