Jay Leno has opened up a little about his alleged role in the controversy regarding Gabrielle Union's firing from "America's Got Talent," and so far he's striking out on improving his name.
Gabrielle Union recently spoke out about racially insensitive comments and actions she says she received from staff during her short, one-season stint on NBC's "America's Got Talent."
One part of the controversy was a joke that Leno allegedly told that perpetuated an Asian stereotype.
A 'Great Girl'
The Mail asked Leno whether he thought Union was treated right while on "America's Got Talent," but all he said was, "I don't know, but I think she's a great girl."
First of all: "a great girl"??
Falling Flat
The Mail wrote that Leno was spotted Sunday in Hermosa Beach, California, after performing a show at The Comedy & Magic Club and was asked about the controversy.
Leno commented, "I love Gabrielle Union, she's a great girl. I really enjoyed working with her, she's really good."
Leno apparently still has no comment about his terrible non-joke that took aim at Asians, the one that Union spoke up about because it was so racist.
Way to be, Jay Leno.
The producers of "America's Got Talent" put out a statement to Variety on Monday:
"We remain committed to ensuring a respectful workplace for all employees and take very seriously any questions about workplace culture.
We are working with Ms. Union through her representatives to hear more about her concerns, following which we will take whatever next steps may be appropriate."
