Jay Leno and Pharrell Inspired Kim Kardashian to Name First Child, North
The names that the Kardashian-Jenner family have chosen to name their children are unique, to say the least with names like True, Stormi, and North. Kim Kardashian West and her husband, the highly successful rapper, Kanye West, had their first child in 2013 and were having difficulties coming up with a name while Kim was pregnant. Eventually, though, an inspiration for the name of their first daughter would come from an unlikely person: Jay Leno. Kardashian West explained how the name came about on a YouTube makeup tutorial video with her sister, Kylie Jenner.

Kardashian West Shares What Inspired the Name 'North'
Kardashian West and Jenner occasionally get together and conduct makeup tutorials for all of their fans on YouTube, which they have appropriately titled 'Get Ready With Us: Kim and Kylie'. During these videos, the two sisters offer makeup tips for people watching, as well as, field questions in a Q & A format.
In one of the latest episodes of the YouTube vlog, Kardashian West opened up about what was really behind the name of their daughter, North. For the KKW Beauty founder, it all started in 2013 when she was pregnant on Jay Leno's late-night talk show.
After Leno's Joke, The Name Began to Gain Traction Among Friends
While she was on the show, Leno took the time to grill Kardashian West on what she and Kanye would be naming their first-born child. Leno even suggested some names, of course for comedic purposes. Kardashian West explained on her YouTube vlog, "North took me like a week to name her — not a week. Four or five days. And I was like, ‘No way, I would never name my daughter that.’ Like, I said that on his show." And what started as a joke, the name North West started to gain traction amongst Kanye and herself, as well as, close friends and family.
Pharrell Offered Support For the Name, Providing 'Cool Meanings'
One notable friend of Kardashian West, the accomplished songwriter, performer, and producer, Pharrell, told her that the name could work for their now six-year-old daughter. Others seemed to voice the same sentiments to the couple. "Everyone was coming up to me like, ‘It’s such a cool name. You should really think about it.’ And then Pharrell had all these cool meanings," she said on her YouTube makeup tutorial video. And it seems the rest is history. Kardashian West wasn't the only one to open up about her children in the vlogging session, though.
Kylie Jenner Shares How Many Children She'd Like to Have, Timeline Unknown
Kylie Jenner, the youngest of the sisters, also spoke about children. She currently only has one, Stormi, with ex-boyfriend and rapper Travis Scott. But Jenner sees herself having at least a few more children, although, she doesn't know when that will be or how far down the road.
"I see myself for sure having four kids, I just don’t know when. I don’t have a timeline to this, and I don’t know if I’m gonna have four kids tomorrow, [or] if I’m gonna have four kids in seven years."
