Jay Leno drives the new Corvette ZR1 over 200 mph

Jay Leno’s Garage visited General Motors’ famous Milford Proving Grounds in Michigan. While Leno was there, Corvette’s chief engineer let him take a stock 2019 Corvette ZR1 for a spin — at over 200 mph.

The ZR1 has a 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine, which generates 755 horsepower. That’s a lot of power for a car that costs about $120,000.

After chief engineer Tadge Juechter showed up in the new car, Leno asked, “You know, all these people say their cars go 200 miles an hour, but nobody actually sees if they actually do. Can we try and take this to 200 miles an hour?” Juechter was happy to oblige.

Leno was able to pilot the ZR1 around a high bank oval track at 202 mph. He said, “This car is incredibly stable. Pretty, pretty, amazing accomplishment.”

Jay Leno’s Garage airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. on CNBC.
