Jason Sudeikis and his Ted Lasso co-star Hannah Waddingham covered “Shallow” from the 2018 A Star Is Born at Sudeikis’ annual Thundergong! charity show over the weekend.

Taking place at the Uptown Theater in Sudeikis’ Kansas City hometown on November 11th, the Thundergong! show benefits the Steps of Faith Foundation, which “reconnects amputees to their communities, families, and workforces by relieving the financial burden of prosthetic care.” Other musical guests included indie rocker Kevin Morby and a local yacht rock tribute band called Summer Breeze, but Sudeikis and Waddinhgam were among the evening’s true stars.

Sudeikis began “Shallow” by singing Bradley Cooper’s opening verse, going all-in with a fitting melodramatic twang in his voice. He was on stage with his former Saturday Night Live co-star Will Forte by his side, evidently ready to assume the role of Lady Gaga. But before Forte could get a note in, Waddingham got on stage, shoving him aside so she could belt out Gaga’s sweeping high notes effortlessly. Sudeikis and Forte stepped aside to apparently feign an argument over this orchestrated miscommunication, but that squabble ended just in time for the de facto Jackson Maine to sing his next part. It sounds good!

The third season of Ted Lasso aired back in March on Apple TV+. Brendan Hunt chatted about the show on a recent episode of Kyle Meredith With…, which you can revisit below.
