Jason Oppenheim and Marie-Lou Nurk broke up in May 2023 after 10 months together

Jason Oppenheim and Marie-Lou Nurk met on a vacation they will never forget.

The couple first connected while they were both visiting Greece for a summer getaway in July 2022. However, 10 months later, they broke up, citing struggles with long distance as the cause.

Oppenheim and the model were initially spotted sharing some PDA during their trip abroad in July 2022, which came six months after the Selling Sunset star's split with ex Chrishell Stause. While Oppenheim wasn't looking for a relationship at the time, it appeared that he couldn't deny his spark with Nurk.

Since their initial outing, the couple made things Instagram and red carpet official. In February 2023, the pair even announced that they'd moved in together. However, Nurk was still bi-continental.

In May 2023, Nurk and Oppenheim posted photos on Instagram in outfits resembling those of a bride and groom. Fans (and friends) thought the couple had secretly tied the knot.

The reality star quickly set the record straight in a statement to PEOPLE: "Lou and I realized that our post on Instagram made it look like we had just been married. We received numerous congratulatory texts, as well as angry texts from friends asking why they weren't invited, so quickly changed the caption! All these photos were from an event that we went to together a couple of months ago."

Just a week later, however, the couple announced they called it quits.

In August 2023, Nurk and entrepreneur Ronan Lebraut were spotted together in St. Tropez, France. The model then shared what appeared to be paparazzi photos on her Instagram.

She grew up in Germany

Nurk grew up in the south of Germany. She now splits her time between Paris and Los Angeles.

As a college student, Nurk attended Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University in Stuttgart, Germany. While studying at the university between 2018 and 2021, she majored in marketing.

She works for a branding agency and is also a model

According to Nurk's LinkedIn, she currently works as a strategist at Strichpunkt Design, one of the leading design and branding agencies in Germany. In addition to her day job, she is also a model signed with Mega Model Agency. On Instagram, she's shared a look into her life as a model, including a shoot for NA-KD Fashion.

She and Oppenheim were first spotted while vacationing in Greece

Nurk and Oppenheim were seen together for the first time while they were both vacationing in Mykonos, Greece, in July 2022. The pair were caught on camera sharing a kiss, which an onlooker described as some "serious PDA." During the trip, the duo shared their first photo together, with Nurk posting an Instagram story of the couple posing together in front of a sunset near the ocean.

Shortly after the trip, Oppenheim gushed that it was "exciting to meet someone," and things with Nurk "felt so good."

In September 2022, Oppenheim and Nurk returned to Mykonos for a weeklong vacation. They were joined by a group of people, which included Oppenheim's twin brother, Brett, and his new girlfriend, Samantha Abdul.

Oppenheim and Nurk arrived on the island in a luxurious manner — via helicopter — and stayed at a stunning villa overlooking the Aegean Sea.

She and Oppenheim travelled together often

While Nurk and Oppenheim hadn't been together for very long, they extensively traveled together. In addition to their trip to Greece, the couple were also spotted in L.A., Las Vegas, Santa Barbara, California and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Nurk documented their Mexican getaway on Instagram with a series of photos from the trip.

"3 nights in Cabo 💕🌴," she captioned the post, which included a selfie and a photo of Oppenheim walking near the beach.

She and Oppenheim walked several red carpets together

Nurk and Oppenheim didn't hesitate to make things red carpet official, making their debut while attending the premiere of Day Shift in August 2022. Less than a week later, they hit another red carpet event, coupling up while attending the premiere of Disney Plus' She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

In December 2022, the real estate mogul and Nurk attended the People's Choice Awards in L.A. Oppenheim's Netflix series Selling Sunset was nominated for best reality show.

She appeared on season 6 of Selling Sunset

Nurk made a very brief appearance on season 6 of Selling Sunset. Cameras captured the moment Oppenheim introduced his girlfriend to the women of The Oppenheim Group, and it was clear that the real estate agents were surprised to hear about the couple's 20-year age difference.

In September 2022, Nurk told Vogue Germany that she was "excited" to appear on the reality series but admitted that she's had "a lot less privacy" since getting involved with Oppenheim.

"There are always not only positives but negative aspects when one lives out in the open. Whether it's on social media, in the press or on TV, one is much more quickly judged," she explained, adding that she didn't have time to prepare for her Selling Sunset cameo. "On a reality show, it's actually better not to think too much about it so it's not unnatural."

Oppenheim's best friend Mary Fitzgerald approved of Nurk

In November 2022, Selling Sunset star (and Oppenheim's former girlfriend) Mary Fitzgerald hinted that Nurk and the real estate broker were a good match.

"I love them," she told PEOPLE. "We go out with them all the time. She's amazing, and I've never seen him happier."

Fitzgerald added: "She's just very calm, very mellow. She's not a jealous person. She also lives in Paris, so they go back and forth, and he has a break, and she also doesn't want kids for the next 10 years."

She spent Thanksgiving and Christmas with Oppenheim's family

Oppenheim shared his and Nurk's holiday plans with PEOPLE at the 1060 App event in L.A. in November 2022.

"She's going to be with me, with my family," he said. "First Thanksgiving and first Christmas. In fact, she's going to meet my mom on Thanksgiving. They've met over FaceTime, but they haven't met in person. Then we're going to my dad's birthday lunch the day after Thanksgiving."

The Selling Sunset star added that he was "not nervous at all" about introducing Nurk to his family.

"Both my parents really like her, and I've met her family over FaceTime as well. Hope to meet them in person. But no, my family's super chill. I have no concerns about my family ever or meeting Lou," Oppenheim explained.

She wanted Oppenheim to move to Paris

A couple of months into their relationship, Nurk tried to convince Oppenheim that he should move to Paris. A TikTok posted by the broker in August 2022 seemed to allude that he was considering it. The video showed Nurk jokingly stroking the broker's chin with a caption that said: "When she wants you to move to Paris with her."

While chatting with PEOPLE a month later, Oppenheim revealed that he was considering buying property in Paris.

"For the first time, I'm thinking about maybe getting something in Europe, mostly because my girlfriend lives in Paris and I love Paris," he said.

She and Oppenheim had a place together in Los Angeles

In February 2023, the couple announced that they'd taken the next step in their relationship — living under the same roof.

Oppenheim and Nurk gave PEOPLE an exclusive tour of their Los Angeles condo, which cost roughly $18 million.

"We're living here, I think, for many years," the reality star said at the time. "I've lived in many nice places, but this is my favorite place by far."

The nearly 5,500-square-foot space boasts three bedrooms, 12-foot ceilings, a wraparound terrace, a 10-seat private movie theater, a 500-square-foot walk-in closet and his-and-hers primary bathrooms (one of Nurk's must-haves when searching for a home).

She split her time between Los Angeles and Paris

Despite the decision to move in with Oppenheim, Nurk wasn't in Los Angeles full-time.

"The truth is, we both knew from the beginning that I would have to move back [to Paris] because of my job, friends, and family being here," she wrote on Instagram in April 2023. "Long distance relationships can be tough, but we're both committed to making it work. We make sure to communicate regularly and make time for each other despite the distance."

The model continued: "While it's not always easy, we both believe that our love is worth the effort. I'm grateful to have such a supportive partner who understands my goals and passions. At the end of the day, it's important to follow your heart and pursue your dreams, even if it means taking risks and facing challenges."

She and Oppenheim broke up in May 2023

Despite their goal of making long-distance work for them, Oppenheim and Nurk called it quits in May 2023. Oppenheim announced the split in an Instagram Story with a picture of the two of them looking out over a sunset.

"While we still love and care about each other very much the distance between us has proven to be too great a challenge to overcome," Oppenheim wrote.

He continued, "We remain close friends and continue to talk often and support each other and we want the very best for one another. We thank everyone for their support throughout our relationship."

Less than a month later, Oppenheim told PEOPLE that he still talks to Nurk regularly.

"This has been a transition, you know, obviously difficult,” he shared. “But Lou and I remain really close and we talk almost every day — we at least either text or talk.”

Nurk and Stause got into some drama on Selling Sunset season 7

In the season 7 trailer, Nurk and Stause seem to have a heated lunch as Nurk expresses concern that there might be "feelings left" between Stause and Oppenheim. Stause replies, "I'm losing brain cells in this conversation."

Oppenheim shared with PEOPLE in November 2023 the difficulties of navigating the relationship between his two exes and how he "got a lot of anxiety" watching it back.

"Living through that was very difficult because I obviously care about them both a lot," he said. "And so it was just a complicated and very difficult situation for me. And honestly, watching it back, when I watched this season, was also difficult. I really felt anxious. I got a lot of anxiety watching it, which is odd."

He added that he is going to have to "traverse" the relationship between Stause and his future partners going forward, as his friendship with her is important to him. However, Stause may have ruled out any more meals.

"I think Chrishell has already told me that she's not going to lunch with any of my future girlfriends," he said.
