“The Roman Empire. Ancient Rome. Five times a day it pops into my dome."

How much does Jason Momoa think about the Roman Empire? According to a new musical Saturday Night Live sketch, at least five times a day.

Parodying the recent popular TikTok trend, in which women ask the men in their lives how often the Roman Empire invades their brains, the spoof opens with Momoa lost in reflection at the edge of his bed before his partner (Ego Nwodim) asks what’s on his mind.

Instantly, we’re transported into Momoa’s head, where he’s decked out in gladiator gear and rapping about the legacy of Rome.

“The Roman Empire. Ancient Rome. Five times a day it pops into my dome,” he rhymes. “Which reminds me, they invented the dome. It’s one of the reasons that I think about Rome.”

Believe it or not, gladiator Momoa — who spits facts about Romulus and Julius Caesar — isn’t alone in his pondering. SNL cast members Kenan Thompson and Mikey Day play two more dudes whose partners wonder from afar what could possibly be occupying their thoughts. Is it another woman? The beauty of fatherhood? The slow death of their romance?

Of course not — it’s ancient Rome.

“Gladiators,” Thompson raps. “Will they ever die? It’s not like the movies — they mostly stayed alive. They built roads so good, they’re still in use today. And Emperor Hadrian? Openly gay.”

Before the gang can enter a fourth verse, the women step in to voice their frustration. Momoa earns a slap from Nwodim to snap him out of his Roman daydreams, before getting a well-deserved piece of her mind.

"You need to be thinking about things that matter today,” Nwodim insists.

“Like what?” Momoa dares to ask, accidentally kick-starting her own musical number.

Joined by Punkie Johnson and Chloe Troast, Nwodim begins a verse all about their obsession: reading the stars.

“Astrology, astrology, we all reading stars, and how their positions determine who we are,” they sing. “See a Scorpio, I know he gonna cheat all day. And if you a triple gemini? Stay the hell away.”
