Jason Momoa Apologizes for 2011 Rape Joke: ‘I Made a Truly Tasteless Comment’

After a video surfaced Thursday of Jason Momoa making a crude rape joke in 2011, the “Aquaman” star apologized on his Instagram account, saying: “I made a truly tasteless comment.”

The video in question showed the actor saying he enjoyed working on the hit HBO show “Game of Thrones” because he got to “rape beautiful women.”

Momoa made the comment at San Diego Comic-Con in 2011, where both the actor and a portion of the crowd got a laugh out of it.

However, in the midst of multiple sexual harassment scandals hitting Hollywood, no one is laughing now, and Momoa was taken to task on social media.

“I awoke in Australia to the justified reactions by many people to a distasteful joke I made years ago for which I am sorry,” said Momoa. “I am still severely disappointed in myself at the insensitivity of my remarks that day.”
