After being accused of sexual harassment earlier this week, Jason Derulo has now spoken out on Instagram against claims made by former label signee, Emaza Gibson.

“I wouldn’t normally comment but these claims are completely false and hurtful,” he started while sitting in a dressing room. “I stand against all forms of harassment and I remain supportive of anybody following their dreams.”

He continued, “I’ve always strived to live my life in a positively impactful way, and that’s why I sit here before you deeply offended, by these defamatory claims. God bless.”

On (Oct. 5), a complaint was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court accusing the “Swalla” entertainer of sexual harassment, intimidation and violence, illegal retaliatory termination, and breach of contract. Gibson’s suit is against Derulo, his manager Frank Harris, Atlantic Records, RCA, and Derulo’s company Future History.

“Mr. Derulo’s behavior toward this young artist was despicable, and, unfortunately, another example of the music industry’s dark underbelly,” Gibson’s attorney, Ron Zambrano, reportedly stated. “He not only broke promises and breached contracts, but his threats of physical harm and unconscionable sexual advances toward this young woman who is just trying to break into the industry were outrageous and illegal.”

He continued, “Executives knew of Derulo’s behavior without a care. No one should have to suffer through such treatment by their employer, and in this case, by someone who preyed on the plaintiff’s vulnerabilities and desire to succeed, then just threw her away like garbage when he didn’t get his way. Zambrano is also currently representing Lizzo’s former employees in their sexual misconduct lawsuits as well.

According to the suit, Gibson was first contacted by Derulo in August 2021 upon an opportunity for his label to partner with Atlantic. Looking to sign her to his imprint contingent upon the partnership, Derulo began working on her debut album as a “mentor, supervisor, and agent for Atlantic and Future.”

Derulo allegedly demanded sex from Gibson in exchange to help her reach success in her budding music career. She claimed that he was sexually harassing her “through texts and repeated offers of drinks and dinner.” She also shared that the 34-year-old “lost control,” before, making her feel unsafe.

The defendant also noted that she felt threatened that if she refused to have sex with him, the “amazing opportunity was going to deteriorate.”

She’s also alleged that Derulo kept recording sessions from her because of her refusals. In September 2022, Gibson’s contract with Atlantic and Future History was terminated, and she claimed that Derulo’s “sexually, emotionally, and physically inappropriate behavior” was never addressed by HR.
