A new Jason Bourne movie is on the way.

Deadline reported this week that Universal Pictures is in early stages of developing another sequel in the action franchise.

Director Edward Berger, who made last year's All Quiet on the Western Front, is attached to direct the movie, multiple outlets reported. Also, casting — including whether Matt Damon would return as the series' titular character — has not yet begun.

Berger broke out last year with All Quiet on the Western Front, an adaptation of Erich Maria Remarque's 1928 World War I novel. The film won four Oscars earlier this year, including Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, Best Production Design and Best International Film.

Damon, 53, first played Bourne — an man found shot and with no memories of his past who then discovers he was an agent for a top-secret U.S. intelligence program — in 2002's The Bourne Identity, directed by Doug Liman.

The series, inspired by author Robert Ludlum's books, spawned an initial trilogy completed with 2004's The Bourne Supremacy and 2007's The Bourne Identity, which Paul Greengass directed.

Jeremy Renner and Edward Norton starred in 2012's The Bourne Legacy, a spinoff of the series that followed Renner's own spy character Aaron Cross. Damon then returned to reprise his role and reunited with Greengrass for 2016's Jason Bourne.

The Bourne movies also star Julia Stiles, whose character Nicky Parsons appears alongside Damon in four of the series' five films. Brian Cox portrayed an antagonist named Ward Abbott in the series' first two films, while Tommy Lee Jones, Alicia Vikander, Vincent Cassel and Riz Ahmed each played supporting roles in the most recent entry.

Back in 2017, Damon told The Toronto Sun that a new Bourne movie "would have to be a pretty incredible story to get us all back on the horse."

“This last one didn’t do as well as the one we did 10 years ago, so maybe people are done with the character,” he said at the time. "We all love working together and those movies are a lot of fun to make so we sure would be happy to do it. If we can figure out a good story.”
