Jason Alexander on possible “Seinfeld” reunion: 'No one called me. Apparently they don't need George'

The actor known for playing George Costanza said his costars Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Michael Richards were also clueless about a rumored return.

Jason Alexander, the actor who memorably played George Costanza on all nine seasons of Seinfeld, says he doesn't know anything about the potential reunion or revival that series star and co-creator Jerry Seinfeld seemed to tease last month.

"There is only one reason for that rumor," Alexander said in a new interview with Extra. "Apparently, at the end of some stand-up thing, [Seinfeld] went, 'Larry [David] and I are thinking of something.' Good for you. I don't know anything about it… No one called me. Apparently, they don't need George."

The actor went on to note that his former castmates are as clueless as he is. "They may not need Elaine, because Julia [Louis-Dreyfus] and I went, 'Do you know anything about this? I don't know anything about this,' and I just talked to Michael [Richards] the other day and I don't think he knew anything about it," Alexander said.

As Alexander alluded to, buzz about a potential Seinfeld reunion began last month when Seinfeld hinted at revisiting the series finale during a standup set. "Something is going to happen that has to do with that ending," the comedian said. "It hasn't happened yet. Just what you are thinking about, Larry and I have also been thinking about. So, you'll see."

Louis-Dreyfus has also spoken about her lack of knowledge about the project. "I just saw [that news] last night," she recently told The Guardian. "And I don't know what the hell he's talking about."

Seinfeld ran from 1989 to 1998 on NBC, tallying 180 episodes. The core cast did reunite for a fictional reunion of the show on Seinfeld co-creator Larry David's Curb Your Enthusiasm in 2009, but the sitcom was never actually revived. Alexander also reprised his role as George on Seinfeld's interview show Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee in 2014. Since then, it's mostly been radio silence on a proper Seinfeld revival, though Seinfeld did say it was "possible" that the series could return during an interview with Ellen DeGeneres in 2018.
