Jason Aldean Offers Prayers for Las Vegas Shooting Victims: ‘It Hurts My Heart’

Jason Aldean, the country music star whose performance at a Las Vegas music festival on Sunday was interrupted by a deadly mass shooting, offered his “thoughts and prayers” to victims.

“Tonight has been beyond horrific,” Aldean wrote on Instagram just hours after the deadly attack at the Route 91 Harvest festival outside the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino that killed at least 50 and injured more than 200. “I still don’t know what to say but wanted to let everyone know that Me and my Crew are safe.”

The singer added, “My Thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved tonight. It hurts my heart that this would happen to anyone who was just coming out to enjoy what should have been a fun night. #heartbroken#stopthehate”

The shooter, who fired round after round from a 32nd-floor room at the hotel, was later confronted and killed by local police.

“We believe it’s a sole actor, a lone-wolf-type actor,” Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo told reporters at a 1:30 a.m. news conference Monday. The suspect was later identified as Stephen Paddock of Mesquite, Nevada.

The shooting occurred shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday during Aldean’s performance at the three-day Route 91 Harvest festival, held in a lot across Las Vegas Boulevard from the hotel.

Fans dove to the ground and took cover, trying to protect themselves as bullets flew through the air from the higher vantage point.

For the record: A previous version of this story included a photo of country artist Luke Combs instead of Aldean.
